Going Vegan | My Journey to a Healthier Life

If you have been following along, you already know that I am Gluten Free. I have been GF for over a year and a half and love it! Well, things are about to get a lot different as a transition to being VEGAN.

So, What does this Vegan journey have in store for me? Well, here is where it all began.

Inspiration for Going Vegan

On June 22, I watched an amazing documentary called “What The Health” by Kip Anderson. This is an amazing and super inspiration film. I highly recommend watching it. It totally puts things into perspective about the health and food industries. The real truth is that diabetes, cardiac problems, and cancer are becoming more common. And I don’t know about you, but if there are ways to avoid such problems, then I want to know. Here’s a quick fact list from the film that highly impacted my decision to go vegan:

**World and Health Organization report has classified bacon & sausage as Carcinogenic to Humans (having potential to cause cancer)

**70% of deaths and morbidity are largely lifestyle related & preventable

**One serving of processed meat per day increased risk of developing diabetes by 51%

**Even if you have a genetic pre-disposition it does not necessarily mean diseases will manifest

**There is a strong link between dairy foods and auto-immune disease

**Dairy is linked to many types of cancers

Though the film gives hundreds of facts related to animal products and illnesses, these are the ones that truly stood out to me.

What will I eat?

Funny you should ask, I have been wondering the same thing! Basically, all raw vegetables are a go. I love quinoa so that’s helpful. Most dressings for salads are off the table. Smoothies for days. Nuts, beans, and rice for sure! Staple products such as beans will be my go-to. I plan to seriously meal prep as well as pick up a healthy smoothie or salad for lunch or dinner when out of the house. Soon, I hope to post a shopping list and some vegan smoothie recipes I fancy! So be sure to subscribe to stay in the loop.

Grilled eggplant, cauliflower mashed potatoes, and a side salad!

What will I supplement?

B12 for sure. It is a common nutrient that is loss when cutting out meat. I have heard about using a b12 vitamin spray and I am going to look into that. Like I said, my diet may change to make sure I am getting enough of everything. Also, I want to up my vitamin K intake! So here comes all the green veggies I can find.

What can going Vegan do for me?

Pretty much everything. There is so much information out there about how eating a plant-based diet cures many issues and diseases. Being a home remedy lover and since I struggle with anxiety, this is amazing to hear. Since I am already gluten-free and I know how amazing that has made me feel, I can only imagine what going vegan will do! Many people go vegan for animal purposes and I totally agree with that! Yet going vegan for me is more about health, hence why my diet may change from vegan to vegetarian. But, I am going cold turkey and seeing what a plant-based diet can really do!

Vegan Lifestyle: Why Everyone Should Be Vegan

So, be on the look out for my vegan journey! Things may change along the way, but every healthy diet does. It might be a hard journey, but I am excited to see where it will take me!
